Ahhhh, everyone’s favorite time of year. I find it absolutely fascinating that the spleen holds it’s own place in the mandala. Every single gate is back-to-back, squished in between 46 and 1, and it is the only center to have this fortune… or perhaps it’s misfortune. Who knows?

During this time of year our primal fears are heightened, and isn’t it ironic that we use this time to celebrate Halloween? Dressing up in spooky costumes to honor the *all valuable* fear-pumping through our bodies. It’s unbelievable that our oldest awareness center creates an energy that is our instinct, intuition, depth, and even functioning immune systems.

My husband and I have an 8-1 compatibility configuration, sharing completely open spleens. It’s a superpower and a place where we slip right past each other because our systems have been treated so differently by the people in our lives. He had the privilege of being raised by a dad with a completely open spleen, so he has had a totally different experience of it.

I have always sought out those who hover beyond the primal fears. Nothing feels better to me than a total lack of definition in the spleen. So naturally, I birthed two splenic children because life is indeed an ironic joke lol.

This year we thought we would watch the splenic gates and share our findings. You can find blog posts as we publish them throughout our splenic days. I hope you enjoy, and have a happy Hallowspleen!

‘The 32nd hexagram is part of the channel of Transformation, a design of being driven. It is fueled by the energy of the 54th gate, the Marrying Maiden, the gate of ambition. The 32nd gate, like all gates in the splenic awareness, like all gates of awareness, is a gate of fear, and the fear of the 32nd gate is the fear of failure. Because it is the nature of the fear that is associated with this gate, every single line of the 32nd gate is dealing at some level or another with the fear of failure.

The 32nd gate is Duration, and it is the gate of continuity. It is a deeply conservative gate. It is the mirror of the emotional revolutionary in the 49 on the other side. It is conservative for the benefit of the tribe. It is trying to conserve the material success because it does not want to be a failure. Everything about the instinctive stream has to do with achieving material success for the tribe. The 32nd gate is deeply concerned about whether or not it will be a success and is very much afraid of failure.

It is an instinctive stream which is deeply related to the nose. People with the 32nd gate can smell failure coming because they have an attribute which is the remembrance of failure, unlike the 54th gate that can only remember victory. That is why it is inherently conservative. It can recognize that transformation can always take place.

The awareness here is to recognize what can be transformed, what should be transformed, or not. The ambition of the 54 does not always have to be satisfied. There is a time to move up the ladder. There is a time to change your product line. There is a time to go through these processes. The awareness in the 32 is trying to judge clearly what can and what cannot be transformed.

The awareness potential: this is a liquid regulator. Our memory is in our water. The water in the cells carries our memory. This is all about a memory stream. Any activation in this stream is always going to be an indication of deep cellular memory in a human being. There is a memory for what did not work. By the way, the smell of failure builds up over a lifetime of seeing what does not work and getting a smell of what does not work so that you can pick up a whiff of that when it is coming.

When you look in the Rave I’Ching at the heading above the line for the 32nd hexagram, it says: The only thing which endures is change. Don’t misunderstand the nature of the 32nd gate. It is conservative, but radical conservatism leads to annihilation, leads to the end, leads to failure. For example, you have all these people who are still trying to produce teletype machines after the telefax came. It is time to recognize that you can only get to some point and then you have to change it. If you don’t change, you are going to be left by the wayside.

Built into the nature of the 32nd gate is always a recognition that what truly endures is change, which is the evolutionary process. This is about being conservative in terms of what you will change to. This is the nature of the conservativeness here. It is not about rejecting change. This is very important to understand because it helps us to recognize that the tribe can be changed because, at its most conservative gate, change is its nature. It is how one approaches that change.’

Lines

The need to calmly face impermanence.

Pluto Exalted: An underlying acceptance of change that may or may not lead to tranquility. The instinctive awareness to accept change and transformation.

Neptune Detriment: Impermanence as proof of meaninglessness with its attendant manifestations, depression, delusion, and in the extreme, self-destruction. The fear engendered when change is experienced as impermanence, and the potential for depression.

Easy adaption to circumstances.

Moon Exalted: Where superficiality is a valuable tool that while masking the inner light permits adaption to prevailing conditions. An instinct for adaption in times of change.

Mars Detriment: The urge to express oneself in direct and often violent rejection of conformity. The potential of the instinct to reject adaption and conformity in times of change.

Jupiter Exalted: Even in times of change certain underlying principles endure. The instinct to maintain one’s principles in times of change.

Saturn Detriment: Where Jupiter will establish right action in the larger social realm, Saturn’s will lead to inner strength as long as it is not threatened from the outside. The instinct to maintain one’s principles as long as one’s security is not threatened.

Mercury Exalted: Indecision and persistent re-evaluation, that only because of its basic intelligence manages to endure. Indecision in times of transformation.

Jupiter Detriment: An over-reliance on traditionally legitimized standards that in times of change can be totally out of step and suffer unexpected humiliation. A lack of instinct in times of transformation.

Venus Exalted: The control of power for the benefit and enhancement of harmony. The potential for transformation that may be beneficial to others.

Jupiter Detriment: A tendency in frustration, particularly from a position of strength, to social withdrawal rather than persistent control. The frustration with controls or being controlled.

Sun Exalted: A life sustaining respect and attention to all aspects of a process. The potential to develop the instinct through detailed attention to a process.

Mars Detriment: The uncontrollable urge to bypass essentials which inevitably leads to the disruption of continuity. The fear of lack of potential, and the corresponding lack of attention.

Biology

Spleen

Spleen, blood vessels, and stomach

The spleen regulates fluid balance. It filters blood in its red pulp to remove old red blood cells, recycles iron, and filters out microorganisms and debris. In the white pulp, it contains lymphocytes that initiate immune responses, while also regulating the quantity of blood in circulation and helping to manage circulating hemoglobin in response to factors like exercise or heart failure.

How the spleen regulates fluid balance

Lymphatic fluid regulation: The spleen is part of the lymphatic system, a drainage network that keeps body fluid levels in balance by collecting extra lymph fluid from tissues and returning it to the blood.

  • Filtration: The spleen’s red pulp filters blood, removing old and damaged red blood cells. It also clears microorganisms and debris from the blood, while recycling iron.
  • Volume control: The spleen can store and release red blood cells to help control the amount of blood in the body.
  • Immune cell regulation: The spleen’s white pulp contains B and T cell zones that are crucial for immune responses. It regulates the movement of immune cells throughout the body and the spleen itself, which is fundamental to an effective immune response.
  • Memory: B & T Cells are capable of becoming ‘memory cells’ after being attacked by an antigen. They take on the task of ‘remembering’ the antigen to ensure a faster response in the future. This is the basis of acquired immunity and how vaccines work.

Potential

Awareness of what can be transformed or not. The instinct to adapt in the now without losing continuity.

Early 15c., “uninterrupted connection of parts in space or time,” from Old French continuité, from Latin continuitatem (nominative continuitas) “a connected series,” from continuus “joining, connecting with something; following one after another,” from continere (intransitive) “to be uninterrupted,” literally “to hang together.”

Gate 32 is a tribal gate that wants to ensure success. It is the gate of the ‘financial officer,’ so it is the instinct to manage money and resources for the family, community, organization, corporate office, etc.

The goal is to preserve what is vital, or life-giving, and it’s all about balance. This instinct knows when to give or withhold time, money, and attention based on the value and the ability to preserve community through time.

For example, an office manager might decide to spend money on a new printer because the old one is beginning to cost too much time and money in repairs. They were conservative, staying restrained long enough to get full use out of the old, yet ready to take the risk of purchasing a new printer at the right time. The manager balanced restraint and risk-taking to make a healthy decision for their community.

Fear of Failure

This is easier said than done because our current society is locked into the fear of failure, making mental decisions, and promoting fundamentalism. They don’t want to take a risk on something new, or withhold energy from something that has always worked, and this is typically how we arrive at the failure that we are trying so hard to avoid in the first place.

We fail to value ourselves and others because the modern world conditions us to accumulate as much money as possible. We typically end up isolated, removed from any tribe that could support us, yet surrounded by people who have the same opinions and beliefs, who are also looking to accumulate as much as possible. And the sad part is that no matter how much money we hoard, the fear remains, because it was never about money in the first place. This energy has always been about the etymology – ‘uninterrupted connection of parts in space or time.’

When we remain with a tribe that supports us, we can succeed together in our differences. And success is simply having enough at any given time. We have faith in something greater and trust that the money will be there when necessary, which keeps us ‘hanging together.’ In harmony, we aren’t concerned about accumulation or competition, because we can live a healthy life, supported as ourselves.

I don’t know how tribal energy will continue to change as we move into the Sleeping Phoenix. Tribal bargains are dissolving, and “continuity” now must come from individual authenticity rather than group agreement. It seems to be getting harder to keep a functioning group together at all, let alone one that supports each other financially and emotionally. I watch life in attempts to learn and adapt. I also watch myself as my individual busy-ness increases, eliminating time spent with groups outside of my family, friends, stars, and planets.

We do not know how to go through these changes as people who were born and raised by the Cross of Planning, but I trust that we are finding our way through, just as I am.

Cross of Planning Application

I have gate 54 five times, so if any splenic gate is going to throw me for a loop, it’s 32. But honestly, I think I have a great expression of this energy, and I have seen it over and over again.

A few years ago I attempted to create a subscription HD website to support people in becoming their own authority. I was working with a great group of people, and I was really excited. Then all of a sudden one deadline was missed. Then another. And another. And I finally had to leave. I was officially buried by the group’s negative projection, and there was nothing I could do.

I left them with the completed website because I really cared about the vision, and I spent a year of my life creating it. It had a social platform, wiki section, profiles for analysts, messenger, and more, and I knew so many people could benefit from everything it offered.

When I walked away I told them that they would never launch, and to this day they still haven’t. I could smell it. I knew what was happening from the first missed deadline, but I stuck around anyway. Eventually, my will was gone, and I had to leave out of love for myself and my authority.

However, I did have the will to do something, so I created this website, which is my way of holding the vision in a capacity that I can manage on my own.

I displayed restraint and risk for a greater community that I want to preserve through time. And it was not easy to withhold my attention from what was no longer serving myself or that community; I am proud of myself for doing it. Plus, it’s all free, and the Earth likes that, as do I.

You can ask yourself:

  • Does my mind put the accumulation of wealth before myself and others?
  • Have I seen myself practice restraint and risk-taking?
  • Do I accept and move with change?
  • Do I recognize what deserves my time, money, and attention?
  • Do I have the ability to work together with others while embracing our differences?

Have you had any interesting events involving the concept of ‘failure’ over the last 6 days?

What are you holding onto about it? Can you let it go?
